On the 9th and 10th April, with the sun shining, over 50 girls attended each day of the first ever Shaikly Netball Camp.
The emphasis of the two days was on everything netball. Girls were encouraged to try new positions, play with different people, practice new skills and over all have fun! Each day consisted of warm up games and activities focusing on agility and fitness. The first day was more shooting and attack based skills, with the second day covering defence. There were quizzes, team races, drills, competitions and lots of playing netball!
It was a huge team effort from many of the Shaikly coaching team who supported the idea right from the first suggestion. The response was overwhelming when bookings came flooding in and everyone pulled together to get everything in place. Lots of people worked incredibly hard to plan a worthwhile, fun packed two days and it has been another opportunity to share our love for netball.
All ages of players were involved and everyone was encouraged to help develop each other. Older girls were able to practice their umpiring skills and play along side the younger girls. With the younger girls upping their play with competitive encouragement from the older girls. Behaviour was impeccable and the enthusiasm was infectious. The positive comments came rolling in from coaches, players and parents alike.
As a special surprise all the girls were given an exclusive copy of Game Changer Sports Journal. This is a brand new release that aims at helping children improve their confidence, resilience, performance and enjoyment of sport by setting goals, self-reflecting and recording their experiences of training and game play. The girls will be encouraged to use them at training sessions and games.
So all in all, a HUGE success! Great fun was had by all and I think it's definitely going to be a keeper. Here's us looking forward to the next one!
